Emerging Technologies & Systems in Retail


"Emerging Technologies & Systems in Retail" seminar was successfully organized on 12th February 2008 at India habitat center. More than 100 delegates related to retail industry were present. Prominent speakers from IT Industry as well Retail Companies put forward their views about need of retail industry and the emerging trends. The seminar was organized by Ginni Systems Limited in association with Oracle.


Knowledge Session I

The seminar was thrown open by Mr. Prashant Lohia, CEO Ginni Systems Limited. He gave his views about the challenges faced by Indian Retail Industry and emerging trends in Retail and technology. Mr. Lohia quoted that the retail industry is evolving in India and with that technology is also evolving. He emphasized supply chain as biggest challenge in retail and suggested increasing trend of vendor managed inventory in future. He forwarded his thoughts on E Procurement and RFID technology and how these technologies will change the face of Retail.


Mr. Sanjay Sahani MD, Ritu Wears, ignited the delegates about the use of technology by World class Retailers. He laid emphasis on use of technology in visual merchandising, assortment planning and customer relationship management. He was very firm on the fact that with the introduction of latest technologies & systems in Retail the face of Indian Retail will improve drastically and the industry will be more organized and revenue generating.


Mr. Ram Chandra Agarwal CMD Vishal Mega Mart spoke about how technology helped him grow from a small store of 200 square feet to a chain of 80 stores in 8 years. He said investment in IT should be done at appropriate time. He also said that price quoted by IT companies should be transparent and fair. Mr. Agarwal emphasized on the fact that the Price of RFID though is significant but if the value addition of RFID will be high in Retail, RFID will surely change the way the Indian Retailers work and will provide cost cutting measures giving benefits both to the Retailers and the Customers.


Mr. Lokesh Agarwal VP Operations SRS Value Bazaar discussed the problems faced in day to Retail Operations like – multifold MRP changes in same barcode, no product standardization etc. He put forward his expectations from Latest technologies in form of his dreams before all the delegates and how the technologies will be helpful in retail. He provides his firm thoughts on eradication of manual interference in Purchase Order Generation, Receiving Goods in the Warehouse and in Large Format Stores.


Mr. Vikas Wadhwa and Rajat Ratra from Barcode India presented about new emerging technologies where Mr. Wadhwa built the base of the presentation that how the Indian Retail system runs and what are the lacunae in present retail system, and Mr. Ratra enlightening the delegates about how RFID will support the Indian Retailers for making their business more organized.


Mr. Jyoti Prakash Gadia acknowledged the speakers by presenting the Mementos to them.
 

Knowledge Session II

Mr. Jyoti Prakash Gadia, MD Resurgent India Limited introduced the speakers for the 2nd session which was commenced with the brilliant presentation by Ms. Najiah Abide from Oracle India, Ms. Abide instead of providing her views about the future technologies emphasized on the fact that how the Indian Retail Sector can be made more revenue generating by using the existing technologies in the best possible manner. Ms. Abide provided the brief overview of Management of Data warehouse and Business Intelligence and how these tools are useful for the Top Management of Indian Retail Companies.


CA K.K Chapparia Senior Partner Chapparia & Associates spoke on how system checks and audit helps the Information Technology to run efficiently in the Retail Companies. How technologies can help the Retailers to have a better audit trail, to check the pilferage and minimizing it.


Mr. N. Samba Moorthy, Sr. GM, Epson India spoke on the new printing technologies which are available for Indian Retail Sector and considered so ordinary how important is the printing technology for the Retail Sector starting from generating Inward Challan Printers, Barcode printers and Cash Memo printers.


Mr. Manish Kedia, Director Resurgent India Limited presented the momentos to the speakers.


Mr. Jyoti Prakash Gadia conceded the conference by giving vote of thanks to all the delegates of the conference.
