It has been a common request by many customers that they need to add on man-power during a stock audit phase without the burden of extra payment for permanent licenses. Ginesys (ver. 10.29.4) now allows users to access stock entry module without adding licenses.
Now you can deploy any number of computers and users to carry out stock audit essentially free.
With this feature stock audits should become even faster.
The easiest trap a software buyer (in our case retailers) can fall into is listening to pricey consultants, hardware vendors and sometimes even software salespersons. The first hardly know their right from their left and will go with the priciest solutions. The second category of vendors just recommend their partners. The third have a tendency to over-promise.
We wish we could do without the hassle of trying to sell our product. We want to make products that sell themselves, hence we work hard to build and support our software and actively ask our prospects to speak to customers (a list of customers is always on our site). So (i) don’t buy without calling up the referees and (ii) find out how the support works and if it right for your anticipated usage.
The second problem is looking for the perfect technology. There is no perfect solution rather there is an optimum solution for every budget. Every software has some rough edges. The important question is whether it is meeting your core needs without overwhelming you or your budget.
The best judge of a technology is you and your staff who are going to use and maintain the software.

Tara Jewels is amongst the first companies in this domain to implement SAP in 2000 to support their vision and cater to a majority of their business functions. The SAP implementation is hosted in Mumbai. The information which was being received at the POS was not sufficient resulting in frequent need for manual intervention. Outbound information synchronization sent back to SAP was failing regularly too. This caused repeated tries to achieve the consistency and overuse of bandwidth and system resources. This loop led to lost opportunities at POS and lack of visibility at the management end.
Finally the management decided to opt for GINESYS POS to support their point-of-sale operations in 2010 and thus GINESYS needed to be integrated with the SAP implementation. All of us have to gift something at some point and in this age of choice it makes sense to give a gift voucher to most people. Stores are selling gift cards but are unable to track and control them.
This is where we come in, by adding gift vouchers as a core feature in GINESYS. Interestingly, it is the first and only product in India to have this as standard.
Here is a summary of how it works:
At the Head Office you create vouchers of various denominations. A series of these vouchers gets added to a booklet. Validity dates can be set for the vouchers in the booklets or can be auto-calculated. These voucher booklets can then be allocated to stores and booklets already sent can be cancelled.
At the stores, these booklets can be barcode scanned and sold updating available booklets.
Naturally gift vouchers are now selectable as a payment option at stores. Redemption will update head office and other stores as well that this voucher has been redeemed.
On the reporting side, various reports can be seen like booklets sold, cancelled, redeemed, sales linked to gift vouchers and others.

We understand the frustration of having to tag each unique barcode with an image so that these show up with images during search. This is necessary despite the fact that the same image can be used for all similar articles, categories or descriptions.Our new Image Tagging Convention Feature speeds up the process drastically where there are multiple sizes or categories with the same image. This new feature works at item group level. A user can decide at which level an item image will be specified, e.g. Article, Category, Description, etc.
Other features added are:
1. widening the scope of Excise compatibility to the stock module of GINESYS,
2. the ability to define Excise Document Scheme for each module,
3. the ability to run scheduled data backup through operating system tasks.
